Stage director

Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau

Debut at the Opéra du Rhin

Even more than being a stage-director, Pierre-Emmanuel is a musician having been decorated with four first-prizes from the music-conservatory of his hometown Rouen!

Before starting out for the stage-director’s work, he always acts as a musician by studying the score carefully. Only following this first step, he starts developing his staging conception. As recognizing opera in general as a total work of art, he is setting value not only to take over the staging, but also to create the design of settings and costumes. A stage-director being able to excel in all three fields is certainly extraordinary! The artistic result is then uncommonly homogeneous and remarkably consistent which he succeeded to demonstrate with Don Pasquale at the Theater Biel-Solothurn and at the Metz Opera as well as with The Land of Smiles at the Tours Opera and at the Avignon Opera recently.

The kick-off of Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau’s upcoming season will be his debut with the Opéra du Rhin where he will be in charge of staging, settings and costumes of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.

Opening-night in Strasbourg on September 18, 2018.

All dates of performances.

We are glad to announce our starting collaboration with Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau on the occasion of a project which defines himself as well as the individual practice of his profession perfectly, as he is usually in charge of stage-direction, set and costume-design at the same time. This results in a unique unity of style and a perfect coherence relating to dramatic art. Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau’s staging of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale which was already enthusiastically accepted in Switzerland last year, is equally funny and fierce as classy and elegant. The production is now being revived at the Metz Opera. Performances on November 17, 19 and 21, 2017.

Welcome dear Pierre-Emmanuel!
