Dialogues des Carmélites at the Théâtre du Capitole

After having made a big splash last season singing the role of the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the same venue, Anaïk Morel is back to the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse now performing Mère Marie in Les Dialogues des Carmélites, a role she already sung previously at the Lyon Opera and at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari with great success.

Komponist at the Hamburg State Opera

Anaïk Morel had a summer-festival-season this year without any break! Right after her highly acclaimed debut with the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Bizet’s Carmen, the Salzburg Festival new-production of Enescu’s Oedipe (Jocaste) was to follow seamlessly. Meanwhile she is already rehearsing the role of Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Hamburg State Opera; a role she made an amazing debut with at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse half a year ago.

Oedipe at the Salzburg Festival

Anaïk Morel made her debut with the Salzburg Festival already in 2014 within the world-premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s opera Charlotte Salomon (with the composer himself conducting a brilliant staging by Luc Bondy). Now our mezzo-soprano from Lyon is back to Salzburg again right after having made her successful debut with London’s Royal Opera House as Carmen. In Salzburg she is joining the new-production of George Enescu’s Oedipe performing the role of Jocaste. Conductor is Ingo Metzmacher, staging by Achim Freyer.

Covent Garden debut!

Anaïk Morel made her successful and most auspicious role-debut as Carmen at the Stuttgart State Opera in 2016, followed by further appearances with Bizet’s title-role in Zurich and Montpellier. Now this legendary role enables our mezzo-soprano from Lyon to make her debut with a legendary opera-company, the Royal Opera House London Covent Garden in London. First performance on June 22, 2019

Strauss‘ Composer at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse

Anaïk Morel’s schedule in 2018 was dominated by two major roles from the French repertoire (Charlotte in Werther at Klagenfurt, then at the Opéra du Rhin and at the Zurich Opera as well as Carmen at the Montpellier Opera). The start of the New Year, however, endows a German role to her which she has been longing for since a long time: the Composer in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. Concurrent with her role-debut, she is also making her debut with the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse!

Role-debut as Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito)

Anaïk Morel’s last season was strongly dominated by the role of Charlotte (Werther) which was to become her favourite part henceforth. Her successful debut in Klagenfurt was followed by no less successful revivals of this role at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg and at the Zürich Opera.

Compared to sopranos Mozart considerably neglected the mezzo-sopranos. However, the breeches-part of Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito is an absolutely stunning role in this repertoire. Our French mezzo-soprano is now singing this part for the first time at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater concurrently joining her first Mozartian opera since season 2009/10 while she was still an opera-studio-member at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (2nd Lady in The Magic Flute).

Charlotte at the Zurich Opera!

At the beginning of the current season Anaïk Morel made her sensational role-debut as Charlotte (Werther) at the Klagenfurt Theatre, followed by another deeply moving portrait of this part few weeks ago at the Opéra du Rhin. On short term and sort of surmounting an already outstandingly successful season marked by her new role, our mezzo-soprano from Lyon has been called now to perform Charlotte also at the Zurich Opera. A well deserved appreciation for a world-class singer!

Carmen in Montpellier

Right after her Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Anaïk Morel appears as Carmen at the Opéra de Montpellier.

Preziosilla in Basel

After brilliantly proving to be a first-class Carmen at the Stuttgart State Opera last season, Anaïk Morel is getting back to the Italian repertoire when making her role-debut in the demanding part of Preziosilla in La forza del destino at the Basel Theatre.

Verdi in Stuttgart

After having performed Mère Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites) at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and Siebel (Faust) for her debut at the Opéra national de Paris this season, Anaïk Morel will appear at the Staatsoper Stuttgart as Maddalena in a new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto.

Anaïk Morel already had the opportunity to get familiar with the Verdi-repertoire while performing roles such as Fenena and Meg Page at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Debut at the Paris Opera

Since she made her international debut in 2008, Anaïk Morel has distinguished herself on stages such as the Bayrische Staatsoper (Hänsel/Hänsel und Gretel, Fenena/Nabucco, Meg Page/Falstaff), the Staatsoper Stuttgart (Marguerite/La Damnation de Faust), the Salzburg Festival (Paulinka Bimbam/Charlotte Salomon), the Opéra national de Lorraine (Lazuli/L’Etoile, Boulotte/Barbe-Bleue) and the Opéra national de Lyon (Mère Marie/Dialogues des Carmélites).

Successful debut in Salzburg imbodying an opera singer

The world premiere of Charlotte Salomon at this summer's Salzburg Festival caused a high echo in the international media. After Gesualdo, staged at the opera in Zurich in 2010, this is now the second opera composed by Marc-André Dalbavie. Anaïk Morel performed the role of Paulinka Bimbam, Charlotte Salomon's stepmother, whose name in real life was Paula Lindberg and who was an opera singer. 

Meeting with Jacques Offenbach in Nancy

Last season Anaïk Morel was acclaimed at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Chabrier's L'Etoile (Lazuli). She is back in Nancy taking part in a new production of Barbe-Bleue (Boulotte), a rarely performed operetta by Offenbach.

Since the beginning of the season, Anaïk Morel has already caught the public's attention with her brilliant performances as Mère Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites - press reviews) at the Opéra national de Lyon and as Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) at the Staatsoper Stuttgart.

Acclaimed Mère Marie in Lyon - press reviews

A few weeks ago, Anaïk Morel debuted in the difficult role of Mère Marie de l'Incarnation in the production of "Dialogues des Carmélites" at the Opéra national de Lyon with Christophe Honoré staging and Kazushi Ono conducting. The reviews were abundant and eulogistic. Excerpts below:

Last season, she was acclaimed in Nancy in the demanding role of Lazuli (L'Etoile) and received accolades in Saarbrücken and Stuttgart for her outstanding performance as Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust). Anaïk Morel is now debuting at the Opéra national de Lyon in the role of Mère Marie in a new production of Poulenc's masterwork Dialogues des Carmélites. Marguerite at the Staatsoper Stuttgart

After a fourth Prize at the prestigious Concours Reine Elisabeth in 2011 and a highly acclaimed Lazuli in Chabrier's L'Etoile at the Opéra national de Lorraine a few months ago, Anaïk Morel made a sensation a few weeks ago in Saarbrücken performing Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust. In the same role, the mezzo-soprano from Lyon is going to make her debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Performances from May 26, 2013 on.
